L 22 sickle mower new parts

Postby brewzalot » Thu Apr 23, 2015 10:14 pm

Trying to help a friend of a friend locate L 22 sickle mower parts. I'm not familiar with these at all. He sent a photo of a parts list and at the top it says plain bearing pitman special. He gave a needed part number of IH MC 22501, which he says should consist of 4 items- box, bushing, connection, and stiffener. Is that a good IH number and are these still available from Case IH ? Or is there another place that would have these parts "new", or is used the only way to go now?

thanks for any input.

BOX
ASSY, Pitman, composed of (1) box MC2077X (1) bushing M2078 (1) connection MD22222 (1) stiffener M22221
MC22501

The above is from Messick's site. The "box" is the end of the pittman stick that attaches under the tractor. The older version has a replaceable bushing, the later version a ball bearing. It looks like the individual parts are available, but expensive. He may want to buy used parts and just replace the bushing. He will still need the pittman stick and the straps that attach the pittman to the blade if he doesn't have them. I didn't check to see, but I would imagine that these parts are the same as on the 22 mower for an F Cub, the pittman stick might have a different length.

Bob

Edit: The pittman stick has the same part # for both mowers. Used parts will be easy to find, or new if he wishes to spend the bucks.

Go here http://partstore.caseih.com/us/parts-se ... 9ag4840121. Then click on the section you need. When that section opens click on "Print Assembly". Then click "download".

Bill and Barnyard, as always, great info quickly. I passed your info along to him, and I can use it too when I find my sickle mower.

The pitman arm and all the pieces that attach to it are the same between the L-22 and the Cub-22. The parts that are different are the drive shaft assembly, the PTO pulley, and the drag bar.

There is something I didn't know. I knew there were 2 pulleys for the Cub-22 mower (changed in 1955), but I did not the L-22 had a unique pulley.

If you want to see the differences between the Cub-22 and L-22, TM has a whole page of comparison pictures. The pictures show the obvious differences much better than the non-obvious sameness. Note the Lo-Boy PTO pulley is mounted with the clamp bolt to the rear and the groove much closer to the transmission. It is easy to put together a tapered hub pulley for the Lo-Boy.

So sorry Bob McCarty,

Just realized I thanked "Bill" instead of "Bob" in my response above, unintentional.

Thanks again

According to my friends friend Messick's no longer carries these parts, he also stated the dealers he tried did not carry them either. Has anyone purchased these parts new anywhere recently?

Thanks

Tim

While your informant may be correct, my suggestion would be to inquire directly of Messicks. Seems that I recall that their website indicates whether particular items are available. The parts, if available, will be pricey and the shipping cost will be high.

Call these folks if you have no luck elsewhere. They love it if you already have the part number.

Good advice Bus Driver-

I called Messicks myself and they said the part was discontinued, but after a little convincing to look further, the young woman found they had the kit in their warehouse. Part is ordered and on its way. It pays to be persistent.

thanks again,

Tim
