On the govenor there are 2 ajustments, can someone please tell us what they are and how they affect the running of the engine.
There is one on the front face perilously close to the fan with a double flat bolt and a lock-nut and on the top a bolt with lock nut and a hole for security wire.
Baby, now up and running has a strange govenor and is very fierce only using a 1/4 of the throttle segment, can anyone help please?

If recall correctly, the one on top is the high rpm limit, and the one on fornt is the bumper to contol surging. I believe you can find the info in the service manul on Rudi's server site at

Running too fast
If yours seems to be over revving you may have a similar problem as we did. Governor or its settings was not the problem. It was the slop in all the linkage. 54 years of use, things wear.
A little extra movement at each spot adds up. Wound up building up the governor output shaft coupling, replacing the key, installing double setscrews on each side, installing setscrew on crossover shaft arm. After that, everything was tight on the 49 that was bought new by my Dad and used as a working tractor all its life.
