I don't know how many rpm's the Cub engine can stand before it self destructs. I had the throttle linkage fall out and the carburator go to wide open. The Cub engine must have hit 3000 or better RPMs before I could shut it down.
Just an opinion. I don't see why that 60 cu.in. engine could not easily turn out 30 or more horsepower with a little tweeking, mostly by upping the rpms and increasing the ignition advance curve a bit.

You're right, Eugene. The particular engine I was talking about is scheduled for replacement by a Kubota diesel some time in the future, so longevity isn't a big concern. Therefore, it will probably run at the high speed forever!

Every thing you say is true. Durability for day after day is what they built. You would also want to change to aluminum pistons and add a water pump to get rid of all the extra heat generated by the extra fuel. In other words every tweek would lead to do this do that. Next thig you would want to stoke it. There would be no end.
