Hi all!
I work on a small veggie farm with a 47 Farmall Cub which has become my project this year. I just took Brain Huckins farmall cub class and I've read the owners manual. I've changed all her fluids and cleaned out the gunk in the fuel filter (which was filled with spiders and sediment) I got her started yesterday and ran her for about ten minutes changed the oil and filter which was sludge. Started her and ran her for a couple minuets two times but I couldn't get her started today. Or rather I got her started a couple times but couldn't get her to run more then 20 seconds. My next step it to take apart and clean the fuel system. Any tips?
Thanks
Elyce

Prime the oil pump and make sure you have pressure before going any farther.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I filled the oil filter with oil before I closed it up would that prime it?

Nope. The oil will just run down into the crank case and not prime the oil pump.Elyce wrote:I filled the oil filter with oil before I closed it up would that prime it?
Inside the oil filter housing, towards the front of the engine, and down about an inch is an opening. Squirt about 3 or 4 tablespoons of engine oil into the opening.
I have an excuse. CRS.

This is where Eugene refers to:

Starting and then stalling is typical of a lack of fuel. Check for a full stream flow at the carb drain point, if not flowing (about a quart) then trace it back to the tank from that point. There could be a screen in the carb inlet, restriction in the fuel line, (is yours metal or rubber with an inline filter), pluggage in the sediment bowl screen and screen/shutoff valve up in the tank, etc. If you have a good flow after letting the fuel fill up a quart or so, clean the main jet. CAUTION: If you seperate the two halves of the carb, take care not to break the idle tube that extends from the top half into the bottom half bowl. Also check for free movement of the float assembly and sticking needle valve. Stan
