Shipping Turf Tires??

Postby Thackery » Sun Mar 29, 2015 7:14 am

I know that UPS ships auto tires, but not sure how big they will go.
Will UPS or another service ship Cub Rear Tires?

Doug, I'm not sure but I think UPS will ship them.

Several years ago I shipped as set of Cub ag tires by Fed Ex Ground. I cannot remember the largest dimensions they handle, but the tires were about an inch taller, so I used a metal band (like you see on lumber or big pallets) run right around the middle of the tread, and cranked them down a little bit and crimped it. Then I wrapped the section of the tire with the cut end of the band and the crimp with plastic wrap and that's also where I put the shipping stickers. They shipped without a problem. The person who picked them up said they didn't really care about the overall size, as long as they weren't too heavy, but said they ship tires all the time.

Doug, don't know your source for the turfs, but if you buy from Miller Tire they will deliver to any shows they attend. They'll be at Portland for the spring show in May.

Hi,
A year ago I ordered a rear tire from Millers and had it shipped to here in central PA. They couldn't send it with normal carriers because of weight. So it was shipped by freight at a cost of $130. I wanted a tire to match the other tire or I would have ordered from a local tire distributor and saved over a $100. Don't know the weight difference in a turf verses a ag tire. A call to Millers will get you answers.

Thanks for the ideas.
I will ask at Fed Ex for size and weight just to make sure.

Doug, another option to explore is Fastenal, if there is one handy at both ends of the trip. You just need to be able to strap them to a pallet for the fork lift.

I ordered a single 8.3x24 tire from Miller and it was delivered UPS. As I recall, when I listed two tires on the order form, the online shipping price more than doubled and I assumed it was because it exceeded some threshold. That was several years ago. What I am trying to convey is if you split the shipment, you might be able to ship UPS and it might be a cheaper alternative. I know, a lot of mights and maybes.
