Can anyone give me an explanation for the taper from front to back on the right side? I'm making some tool bar chain hold up plates and hooks, and the taper keeps the nuts from seating flush.
Thanks, Bob
Edit: One usage did call for one of the bolts to be 1/4" longer than the other.

Something to do with an attachment that went with it I would say. Did ya look at the parts manual?

Re: Rear rockshaft arm taper
Bob, I had thought about buying some bushings at Lowes and adding a bevel to straighten things up when I was building my 3 point hitch. But after bolting it up to the steel plate I didn't think it was worth the effort. Can't remember the nuts not sitting flat though. I did wonder myself the purpose of the bevel. Maybe someone will know. Thanks again for your help at the Cubfest. I enjoyed meeting you. The tractor is also running great! Post up some picks of your creation when you are done.

Re: Rear rockshaft arm taper
The taper was added by the same Engineer that put the two holes in the floor pan. Go figure.....

Re: Rear rockshaft arm taper

Re: Rear rockshaft arm taper
A possible thought, when you are using the lift disk, that arm extends into a channel that covers the top and both sides. The pins and pivots where it mounts to the drawbar have a little play and allow a little side to side swing, and the lift arm taper may be to keep that movement from putting side pressure on the lift arm and upper linkage when this happens.

Re: Rear rockshaft arm taper
John, If that was the case, wouldn't they have tapered both sides the same amount?

Re: Rear rockshaft arm taper
That is only a guess, and the only thing I can think of. It would seem logical to taper both sides, but all that would have been needed would be for the taper to be there to give it some play. There may be some items that need a flat side to bolt too. Remember, my statement was a WAG, not a SWAG.

Not trying to be funny, but they do make what we call hill side washers.

The slant will hold the nut or bolt tight without a lock washer
