Mag. rebuild

Postby dickcub50 » Thu Feb 12, 2015 1:59 pm

Where is the best place to purchase an internal
coil? I would prefer one made in USA.
Presently using an external coil, trying to go
orignal.

Got mine from Steiner, works fine. Beware, Brillman had one listed but they were out of stock indefinitely and didn't see the need to inform me after processing my order.

Often when an external coil has been used, the internal coil was separated from the magneto, including the special bar needed to hold it in place. You better make sure you have one of those, as they are no longer available to my knowledge. It requires a donor mag to find one.

Does anyone have a good diagram for rebuilding a Magneto? Prev owner put an external 6 volt coil on my 47 Cub and I'd like to return it to original someday.

I recommend that you obtain and use the special puller if you plan to remove the impulse coupling (necessary for a complete teardown). Others will tell you that they removed it with care and a two-jaw puller, but I ruined the only one I ever tried that way. And they are no longer made. Earl makes the puller, well worth the cost.

I too am thinking very hard about returning my 50 cub back to the magneto. My internal coil was missing and an external one wired in, and the bar was missing. But, I finally found a bar on ebay and it is on the way to me now.

So, with that, is the internal coil the only other thing I am missing? I would like to go ahead and rebuild it completely if I do this. And, where can I get the impulse coupling puller?

Thanks,
Ben
