Going to look at a cub tomorrow for a friend. Can anyone ID this mower? Sorry about the bad/incomplete photo.
Also, any comments/observations on the tractor itself (what little you can see!) would be welcome. Thanks!

Re: Cub belly mower ID??
It is the earlier round back style as opposed to the later hex back like a Woods. Several discussions on them if you do a search. Single piece blade and doubtful it has an overrunning clutch, which can run you up a fence post if you try to stop quick and don't have enough room for the blade to wind down. Not a big deal if the operator is AWARE, a really big deal if the operator is someone who shouldn't be on a Cub.

I have one like it on my LoBoy. Also have owners manual and Bush Hog parts lists/drawings which by now might be on the manuals link above. The bearing box/shaft is obsolete and no longer availabe as a new part. The one pictured looks to be in pretty good condition. The factory tag for model ID and SN is on the right top near the edge on one of the cross braces. Can't tell too much about the tractor but what can be seen looks pretty good.

Bush hog 412 mower, great mower and you can still get parts from bush hog and messicks.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

Re: Cub belly mower ID??
Went to look at this cub with the mower, but I'm sorry to say the engine was frozen, and when I showed the owner where the drain hole in the exhaust manifold was and then cleaned the rust out, a stream of water came out. Needless to say, I passed on it. It COULD be fixed up, but not ready for another big project.
Transmission was most likely full of water, because both final areas were soaked with gear oil...rusty gears?!
Don't think they were real happy when I told him what it was probably worth in its present state! If anyone is interested, I can give you the info!

Re: Cub belly mower ID??
That's kinda sad, seeing how the overall appearance seems to be in fair condition. Including the carb. Looks like it might have seen a rebuild not too long ago.
But I'm with you on not taking any big projects on for a while.

Re: Cub belly mower ID??
I wish it was closer to me. I have a parts tractor that would take care of what's needed.

Re: Cub belly mower ID??
Actually, I am still considering it as a project. The Cub I am getting at DSCF will need a mower, so I may go back and offer to buy the cub and mower, but not at their asking price. It does look fairly nice, but with all the water intrusion, a lot is unknown. Even the carb (which I believe they did have rebuilt...when?) had water in it. They also had one final rebuilt by some Amish folks (when?), but with all the gear oil pooled around both finals, I think the water has forced most of the oil out.
Will let you know how it goes. Anyone looking for a project minus the mower?!

Maybe.....at a price that makes it possible. What do you have in mind? PM any details.
