Are there good pictures somewhere on how to remove and replace the breather? The manual does not seem to cover it. Also cannot find a source to buy a new replacement. Any idea.
Thanks all!

The part is still available through CaseIH, but it's $56. 651616 R1 Likely it may be available from a hydraulics shop too??

The breather just unscrews from the top of the reservoir plate. Be gentle with the cap so you don't crush it. I just cleaned mine. Works fine.

What is the best method to clean the breather? It came off nice and easy, but blowing air into it does not seem to do much. Should it be soaked in something first?

Kero, diesel or my new favorite, bio-diesel.

Re: Breather on IH 1000 loader
I am also looking for 1. I contacted the local Case I H dealer and the price is $61.00 but it has to come from Canada and that adds $45. I think I can make 1 a whole lot cheaper. The only thing I need to know is the length of the dipstick and the graduations on it.
If anyone has a I H 1000 breather cap and can get some measurements it would be greatly appreciated

Re: Breather on IH 1000 loader
I ordered a chrome breather from Northern Tool that should screw right in to the threaded hole in the tank.
"Nortrac Hydraulic Breather Cap — 1/2in. NPT, Chromed Steel
Item# 778653"
Less than $15.00 delivered.
I will have to come up with a dipstick.

Re: Breather on IH 1000 loader
Not all of them have a dipstick, I think if you just fill at the elbow until it won't take anymore you should be fine...... at least that's all I ever do.
Try calling a different dealer.... or go with the one above. It does need to be vented as it's not a pressurized and when you drop the bucket it dumps a lot of oil. I think the manual recommends checking it with the bucket down (piston compressed)??

Thanks for the level info.
The cap mentioned above is a "Breather Cap" which implies it is vented. I''ll soon find out.

Re: Breather on IH 1000 loader
I do not know what a 1000 loader uses for a breather, but McMaster.com has several styles and types. Just type in breather in the search window of their site.

Re: Breather on IH 1000 loader
If it's a mushroom breather with metal mesh in it like the engine oil dip stick we just soak it in kerosene for a while. Then blow it from the inside out. We don't blow it from the out side in that only pushes the grime and dirt farther in. Let it soak good and bang it lightly on its side and the stuck stuff should come out.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: Breather on IH 1000 loader
All good. Unscrewed just as yall said. No dip stick. Filled to elbow. Runs great now, no chatter or pump whine!
