New Year, New Member!

Postby George M » Wed Dec 31, 2014 8:50 pm

I am a new member to this website and thought I would introduce myself and my Cub. This is my first post, and as 2014 wraps up my Cub project unfolds. It is a 1951 F-Cub, and we've only had the thing for around 3 months now. Along with it we have a L-54 snowplow. It runs great and was previously restored. Even though the paint is wearing away it runs like a charm. We drove nearly an hour and a half away to pick it up a gentleman who bought it from its first owner who we think restored it and let is sit outside for a while until sold. So far, all we've done with it was change the oil/ filter, replace the gas line, replace both the brake rods (as the old one was broken [and both worn down]) and we replaced the carburetor with a rebuilt one we purchased from a gentleman near our house who restores Farmalls (mainly Cubs and Super/ A's). We have a lot of plans for it, including the County Fair show, Drive your Tractor School Day, Town Festival show and parade, Hayrides and snow plowing. We plan to have this tractor as a father - son project for me and my dad. I'd like to hear what you all think!

Thanks for reading,
George M

Welcome to the House of Cubs. Is it just me or are the membership roles growing by leaps and bounds? The more the merrier. It is great to see new members and more Cubs being saved. I can only look now at Cub listings because I am determined to first get the ones I have up and running before I even think about getting another. My problem is I bought the first tractor and then I bought the next one for parts, but I got to looking at it and decided to fix that one up also. Then I bought another for parts and before I knew what happened I had four fixer uppers. Never had the heart to break one down for parts.

George M, Welcome aboard!! You will find a wealth of first hand experience here! Pay attention to working with your Dad as that will create memories you will forever cherish. Didn't see where you are from, but you and your Dad might like to participate in a Cubfest as you can learn an awful lot and make some fine friends to boot! Nice looking cub you have!! Good luck!! Nice having you as part of the gang!

George,

Welcome to the forum. Enjoy the time with Dad as you work on the Cub. You said that one of the things you wanted to do with it was participate a Drive Your Tractor to School Day. These puppies are not fast, about 6 MPH at full throttle. So if you live a good ways from school, you will need to start before breakfast - a good bit before breakfast. :) Participating in this activity leads me to believe that you may be a member of FFA. A great organization, I started my career as a Vo-Ag teacher and retired as County Extension Agent.

Keep us informed of your progress and ask questions. We like questions.

Me neither!
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thank You for all the comments!!! I will be coming to you guys a lot as this is our first real tractor (that we are restoring [our other one is a 2004 Cub Cadet {which is neat, having an old cub and a new cub!}]) No, i am not a member of the FFA, but anybody can participate. I did my first one this year and yep, at its highest it did go 6 mph. We parade all our tractors down the road past the younger grades schools. The high school is 7th through 12th grade, and anybody can drive. One of my favorite things about this forum is that we are using our 2014 computer technology to run our 1950's farm tractors!!

George, Welcome to the Forum. In the tool bar above you can find operator's manuals which will give you all the places that need lubrication. The Cub has some funny ones, like the fan hub, generator, rear finals, throw out bearing, etc. that are often neglected with bad consequences. Let us know if we can be of help.
