Re: No Oil Gauge
The oil gauge screws directly into the oil filter housing.

The gage screws directly into the oil filter housing on the side toward the rear of the engine. Take a look at the picture attached. (Barnyard types faster than I can.)

Go back and look at the oil filter housing photo in the last post in your Float thread. You can just barely see the edge of the oil pressure gauge in the lower left corner of the photo.

If you elect to use a aftermarket gage instead of OEM, check the pressure rating of the gage. The typical aftermarket gage is 0-60 or 0-100 and will not show the cub C60 engine oil pressure when running. A typical engine in good condition will only have around 15 to 18 psi. It is also possible to relocate the gage to a more visable position with the correct fittings and connections. There is some excellent information about anything that is"CUB" related found in the links at the top of the page, look for "manuals" or "rudi's manuals". Also at the bottom of this page there are subforums with good information on this subject as well as many others like fuel filters, repair projects, etc. Good luck and keep posting. You will find the answer to just about any question on cubs from people on this forum. I'm still learning from these knowledgable people. Stan
EDIT: I also sent you a PM.

Re: No Oil Gauge
Thanks to all. The plug in the oil filter housing has never been removed. It will have to be drilled out and the hole retapped. Is there any other place to monitor oil pressure ?

Re: No Oil Gauge
Two other possible locations.LeoM wrote: Is there any other place to monitor oil pressure ?
1. Directly in front of the oil filter housing, there may be a plug into the oil galleries.
2. Left rear side of engine, gonna be under the hydraulic line, is another plug into the oil galleries.
Never tried any of these locations - so really don't know.
I have an excuse. CRS.

What kind if plug is it? Does it have a hex head? Why would it have to be drilled?

Re: No Oil Gauge
It is a 1/8" mnpt that "HAD" a 4 pt. head. I cleaned around the plug head and soaked it with P B Blaster. I first tried an open end wrench but the metal is so soft that the head immediately rounded. I tried using 10" vise grips but it won't move.
I can drill a small hole through the plug and I have a small punch and chisel set that I can use to collapse the remaning plug threads. I have done this in the past and it just requires a little patience. I will remove the oil filter and I will put a little air pressure, 5 psi or so, in the filter housing and have a shop vac hose under the drill bit on the outside.

Re: No Oil Gauge
It might be possible to weld a nut large enough to slip over the round "post" that is left from the plug. The heat from welding will aid in breaking the bond of the threads and allow you to back the plug out.
EDIT: There should also be an allen head plug on the top edge of the oil filter housing right next to the block. The other two locations mentioned above should also be allen head plugs.

Re: No Oil Gauge
On the originals I have seen that broken piece of plug is brass, so welding may not work.

Re: No Oil Gauge
It is mild steel and pretty small. My welding skills are not that good and I have about 4 gallons of gas in the tank. You probably wouldn't hear the blast in Mo. but Stan might in Lower Al.

Re: No Oil Gauge
Doesn't the oil pressure gage get installed with a street elbow so it can be angled so the operator can see the gage?
I was taught how to weld a gas tank to topped off with gas by running the exhaust into the tank. I'm not going to try that anytime soon.
Five gallons of gas = 50 sticks of dynamite. Do not weld near gas tanks.

I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.
