touch control rebuild

Postby Jack » Wed Dec 10, 2014 9:54 am

hello all, my 55 cubs touch control has been leaking fluid for a while now.so I guess its time to put new gaskets and O-rings in it. does the gasket kit from TM come with step by step instructions? and is it a very difficult project. also should I purchase a new touch gear washer for this project?
thanks Jack

Do you know where it's leaking from? If it is leaking around the control valve(smaller rod coming out the front of the unit), then it's a simple fix to replace oring with unit still on tractor.

If it's leaking into the crankcase, you need to rebuild the pump. If it's leaking from the block, you need to rebuild the block. There are two different block kits depending on the part# on your block (the pump kit covers both versions). There is a good "how to" for the later block, and a recent post on redoing the early block. I'm not sure if it has made it into the "how to" forum yet. Once the block is off the tractor, you'll need an afternoon to clean up the outside and then open and replace the parts. Once it's opened up, you may also find you need to replace the filter screen.

hi guys, the leak seems to be coming from the front of the unit

Most likely that is the control rod, but can also be the lift piston. If the control rod, as was mentioned, it can be done without removing the unit. My personal experience has been that when the o-ring on the control rod goes bad, the rest are right behind it, so you might as well do it right. There is a step by step in the How To section of the forums, but there are 2 different units, so be sure you order the right kit.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
