Why turf tires? Will they work in plowing? Add chains?

Turf tires are for exactly what their name implies. They were designed for tractors used for mowing turf, to eliminate the damage that ag tires can do.

I think turf tires should work well with chains for snow removal. However I have had no experience with it. I would like a pair of 9.5 x24 turf tires mounted on rims to use for grass mowing and snow removal and a set of ag lug 8.3x24 tires mounted for garden plowing. Guess I need to look for a pair of rims to mount some turf tires to give it a try. Ted

I have chains on my lo-boy turf tires. I also had rear weights an tires loaded. It'll push pretty good. Welcome to the forum too!

I use turf tires, with chains, for snow plowing. Unless you have special chains on ag tires, the cross links drop between the ttre cleats, and are useless.

I fabricated duo cross chains for my fcub. There are pics here in the photo section. There animal. I get less tire spin. I use them on my fcub and int154. I made a set for connectkit too.

I purchased the adapters to put four fcub rim centers on my 4x4 Willis jeep tractor. (8.3, 9.5, 11.4) tires not sure yet it got the power I need more ground clearance.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Jack, to answer your question about Turf tires and Plowing, I turn plow and cultivate with Turf tires w/out chains. I decided to try this because my cub w/farm tires is used to mow with a 59 C-2 and the front and rear tires are extended to keep from banging up the mower. My other cub w/turf tires is set narrow and I use it to mow with a 42" bush hog. When I assessed the work involved in moving the front axel, tie rods and the rear tires, I thought to myself, it'd be relatively easy to mount the cultivators on the cub with the turf tires just to give it a try. Maybe it's because my garden soil is mostly sand, but, the turf tires performed well for me. I guess it depends on the type soil you're working with. Good Luck, Tom.

As Scotty'sDad said, chains actually work better with turf tires. That being, I have plowed snow the last few years with turf tires and one set of weights. I used to use chains, but SWMBO nixed that after she noticed marks on our newly redone driveway (not divots, just whitish marks). After taking the chains off, I really could notice a reduction in traction. Of course, I always had bare asphalt under the snow, I was never trying to move snow when there was ice underneath.
