Farmall Cub

Last week Rural King had an IH-1 muffler for $19.95. Did not need an upright, but I do need an under slung. Question can the IH-1 be used for an under slung? TC-37 shows 351436R92 or 356003R91 for upright and 363116R91 for the under slung.

Ron, I think the only difference is the under slung hass the whistle cut. It should still fit.

What Bill said. I think they are the same diameter for the exhaust pipe.

Something to think about if using a regular muffler is hot exhaust blowing on mower belts and such. The exhaust may have an effect on a belts longevity.

I used to see the chrome Bologna tips on car mufflers years ago that turned down. Might add one of them.

One of my favorite tools lately is a 4 1/2" angle grinder with a 1/16" thick cut off wheel. Don't see why I couldn't cut a whistle slot in the tailpipe. My old muffler has the whistle cut to use as a pattern.

I don't see any reason that wouldn't work fine. Be sure to work directly opposite the seam in the pipe (as the original was).

Ron, it runs in my mind that someone posted (with pics) about doing that several years ago. Don't know if it ever made it to the "How To" section or not. It may have been Donny Millar or Rick Prentice. Your idea should work just fine, just post back with pictures and such. Would make a good "How To".

I thought so too. I have been looking for it, but no luck yet.

Without tooling (expensive) trying to bend it by hand in a press or a vise is not very elegant. I looked at it at the time, and shelved the project.

I'm pretty sure it was Donny.
My recollection is that he took a piece of hardwood dowel (I think) with a notch in it to use as a mandrel.
May have involved some heat as well.

I recall the first attempt was not all that great-looking, but I may have missed follow-on progress. I concluded that the pipe needs some sort of support on the outside and perhaps the inside, to keep it from collapsing and bulging out at the sides while the mandrel plunges to form the opening. The exhaust does not bother any belts on my C-3, but it does soot up the axle.

The one I used from TSC was a larger diameter unit and I had to amend the existing clamp to make it fit, however the pipe size was the same……It was put on a 54 Cub….It is also of course longer but that did not affect the installation…. Dave

Well I'll be.... Been out of touch, I see. I last remember the "last of a kind" mufflers selling for big dollars. Glad I thought they were too expensive. No brainer for me. I need one for my '77 to finish it, after I get it coated.
