Adjustable skid shoe for snow blade

Postby Curtis » Mon Nov 10, 2014 9:19 pm

I'm going to be plowing my long gravel drive and a couple of neighbor's concrete drives this winter. Has anybody fabricated or have any ideas for an adjustable skid shoe that doesn't require a wrench to change the height?

Thanks Bill, I'll contact Ricky and ask him where he got those skids.

Here are a few but will require a little bit of fabrication/welding.

Ricky fabricated those skids himself.

I'm willing to bet Rick fabricated the mounting bracket. The bracket mounts in the same holes as the standard shoes mounted. As for the skids, Rick will let you know.

He sure hasn't lost any speed during his absence.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Thanks Ricky, I like your design and methodology. Is that 3/8" you used?

Just finished the adjustable skid, a little different twist than Ricky's. I'm using nuts for spacers, two nuts on the bottom for my gravel drive, or I put the nuts on the top, for storage, to do the neighbor's concrete drive. The skid is 3" diameter by 3/8 thick and the rod is 6" long by 3/4"

Very well done Curtis! :applause: Let us know how they work out. I ended up plowing snow without any skids. I found that no shoes worked the best for me. I have two driveways at my place, one a long gravel dive that goes back to my barn and a shorter concrete drive that goes to my attached 2 car garage. Once the ground is frozen I don't have any real issues on the gravel drive but I'm careful about the height I set the blade at. I push a lot of snow living in Michigan on the down wind side of Lake Michigan where we get lake effect snow.

Back to Ricky Racer's original design and the drilling of adjustment holes, the holes might be able to be spaced slightly closer together if the adjacent holes were drilled at right angles to each other. Since his shoes are circular, the shaft can be rotated for hole alignment. Hope this idea was clearly expressed.
