Paint price

Postby stevey30 » Fri Oct 31, 2014 2:30 pm

Well went to my local Case/IH dealer today, got new hoses and radiator gasket, was gonna buy a few rattle cans of primer and paint.I asked what the price per can was and almost hit the floor when they told me $10.69 per can. When did spray paint become worth as much as gold?A gallon is $65 for IH 2150,so I guess that is the route I will go.

I gave up on Tractor Supply paint when then got rid of Valspar and started selling Majic. I had nothing but trouble with that paint. I now go to my local hardware store and buy Valspar for less than I paid at TSC.

I looked at some old receipts, and in 2010 I paid $8.45 for a can of IH 2150. Bought a can last month for $9.95, so I guess that is pretty reasonable price increase for that time period.

I went out yesterday to an auto paint store to buy epoxy primer for my 46 Ford. One quart with hardener was $113.

Hope you fell better now.

I have used TSC Majic on my tractors (3) but they are not full blown resto's or "show" tractors…They all do chores…The last time I stripped and primed everything and it took the final coat forever to dry hard ..( weeks)…A couple of friends use JD IH Red with great results…I'm going to try that the next tractor…Their both "economical" forum members and I have learned why go thru all that work and try to save a few bucks with less than satisfactory paint…. Dave….Oh yeh I'm far from an expert, for that check with Rob….. :D

Denny, I think Barnyard's plan is to line them all up in the yard and have a crop duster paint them all at the same time.

Great idea, Bob! I think I'll try it! Do you prep and prime, or just have the duster do it? (We had a dealer here, who painteed over grease, dirt, straw, whatever is on the tractor.

You guys are a hoot!  However, I agree that would be a great way to do it. He might want to keep Harley in BOB.

I gave up on the Majic paint cans after just two cans. I popped the top and the spray nozzle flew off. Found the first one and it would not spray well. The other is out there somewhere. This was two cans in a row. No more TSC paint.

If you did this right, you could give BOB a new red suit at the same time!!! Heck, IH Red isn't that far off traditional "barn red"!! :D

Don't give me any more crazy ideas, I have enough of those on my own. However, it never hurts to have a few ready.
