Tractor won't start

Postby Garvin Gatewood » Sun Oct 05, 2014 9:10 pm

I sold one of my Cubs a few months ago and the guy has used it all summer without any problems. Yesterday he was mowing and stopped to get a drink of water. When he came back, the tractor would not start. He called today and I tried to help him out. I took a battery and starter off one of mine and tried those but it still would not start. I cleaned the starter button. It could be a wire . Do any of you have any ideas?

Don't laugh when I ask this, but...

Did he/you check the fuel level?

Could it have possibly been on its last drop of gas when it was shut off. Did you double check the switch. I know these are common things, but I also know these are things that have happened before.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

It will not turn over. It is like it is dead. I even tried to use the battery charger.

Do you get any kind of sound when you pull the starter rod?

Clean up the battery cable connections and battery terminals. Then move the battery ground cable from the battery case to the top of the transmission.
I have an excuse. CRS.

You may have tried these, but... Clean and tighten both ends of both battery cables. Check battery fluid level before attempting a charge.

This tractor came with a complete battery box. I did not think about cleaning the bottom of the battery box. I was just really frustrated trying to think of everything.

After thinking about it for a while, I unhooked the battery box ground and moved it to the transmission and it started. That is the aggravating part. I knew to try this I was so frustrated at the time that I forgot.

Garvin, it turned out good, all that matters. It's good for me to know that I am not the only one who gets frustrated and overlook the obvious. Good seeing you on here.
