Oil Filter Change on 57 Cub

Postby JRICK » Tue Sep 09, 2014 11:01 am

I should know the answer to this Question, but I'm not sure. I was looking at my 57 Cub last night to change the oil and filter. It looks to me like there is not enough room to change the filter without raising the hood/tank.I looked at the owners manual and I'm still not sure.I have a 49 Cub, but I changed the oil filter while the hood was off.If I could get a quick Yes it can or know it can not I'll go from there...Thanks in advance..JRICK

Why not just pull the bolt and find out?

Dave, that was my thought last night.I'll assure you I'm smart enough to figure it out,but if you can get information from someone who has experienced it might save some time. Thanks for your reply...JRICK

No need to raise/remove the hood. It will come right out with a bit of maneuvering.

remove the bolt and cover, then the filter element, rather than trying to take them out together.. Reinstall in reverse order.

There's plenty of room. No need to remove the hood.

Remember to drain and clean the tube. This will help with some of the oil dripping when you remove the filter cartridge. :?
