creeking sound comin from the left side final drive

Postby ad356 » Mon Sep 08, 2014 3:37 pm

I have been on a rampage fixing all of the small problems. I replaced the radiator, today I ordered the spindle bolts. my tractor for quite some time has been making a creaking sound from the left side final drive. I changed the oil in the finals recently and everything looked good, no metal fillings and the gear itself was in good shape. so what would make this creaking sound and is it something that I need to fix? otherwise the tractor is in pretty good shape right now. if I pulled the finals I would probably also do the brakes while I was in there.

Make sure all the lug bolts are tight. It sounds like you may have a loose rim or center.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Check all (6) bolts on each final and look for cracks (don't ask how I know this).

As Bill and Ricky suggested...check the lug bolts and wheel center bolts. The centers were loose on one of my 71's and it sounded just as you describe. I dreaded what I was going to find when I pulled the final for about a year and one day something just told me to check the lug and wheel center bolts...sure enough the wheel centers were loose. No more scrubbing or squeaking.

Hope yours is that simple.

Let us know.

also check the wheel weight bolts and the bolts that attach the final to the transmission.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
