A good friend (a mechanic) is working on a Cub for a guy and he thinks the head is warped.
He asked me what the tolerance is for this.
I searched thru all the manuals I have, as well as the Forum, and could not find anything.
What is the tolerance?
Thanks for your help.

.002" to .003" length of the head. Close to .003" or above, consider shaving the head.

Thanks for the quick response Eugene.Eugene wrote:.002" to .003" length of the head. Close to .003" or above, consider shaving the head.
Is this listed in any of our manuals, or simply from generally accepted machine shop practices / experience?

Some of the above. Actually a double check with an internet search.Winfield Dave wrote:Is this listed in any of our manuals, or simply from generally accepted machine shop practices / experience?
Consider that the head gasket will crush to conform to the head. Also, the head is not 100% rigid, expands and contracts with temperature changes. After engine start up the head is retorqued. Retorquing will help even out any minor head distortions.
