C-3 Harrow springs

Postby Jason (IL) » Wed Aug 27, 2014 1:58 pm

I will be restoring my C-3 harrow this fall / winter. I have 3 springs that a broken on mine just above the top bolt hole. I would take replacements if any would have some but my bigger question is, has anyone used a different type of spring shank like a Danish tine or something? I am just curious if there are other modifications out there and if you have some pictures that would be awesome to see. I have what I call the under and over spring? It bolts to the bar and then wraps up and over the bar to the ground.

Since they are tempered I am afraid to weld them as they could just bend or break if I ever did use it.

Thanks

I can't answer your question Jason, but let us know what you come up with. I've wondered what I'd do if any of mine break. I replaced one that was broken when I got it, someone on the forum had it. You might try a post in the Wanted section for a used one. Good Luck. John

After doing some measuring, I think these 14-1/2" S tines will work. The only problem is the cross bar that holds them is rotated 45 degrees so I will have to make a different mount somehow. I have been to my IH dealer and they can not find them. The old man remembers them but said they quit making that style years ago.

Here is what I'm thinking.

I bought those s-tines and set them up on a 2" square toolbar. You'll definitely need to do some work to get them on a diamond bar.

I've since cut the bar down to 7' as it was 9' long when I found it and also dropped a few tines. Works well for me.
