Hello
loader cub has had a leak from the rear of engine which recently got worse
( steady drip)
I did a total rebuild on the engine a few years ago and used retaining compound on the seal
pressing it in properly
I surmise the rear seal is either leaking itself or is spinning in the retainer
I plan on repairing it asap what should I be looking for to identify the reason for the leak
and how do I prevent it from happening
any words of wisdom ???
Howard

Re: Cub oil leak
No way to really tell where the leak is for sure until you split it and remove the flywheel, but unless a bolt has come loose on the oil pump (had the threads fail on one once) about the only thing on the back of the engine is the main seal. If it is that seal I would send the old retainer to TST to be machined for a different one, Plus check the crank for grooves of rough spots that may be eating up the seal.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Re: Cub oil leak
The odds are it IS the rear engine seal, but it also could be the front transmission seal. If you run it for a while and park it with the front higher than the back and it still leaks, probably the engine seal. But if it only leaks when the front is lower than the back, it could be the transmission seal. Either way, the tractor will need to be split, just two different locations.
Good luck.
Good luck.
