1979 International cub
Not many Red "new international" cubs?
I just got my first cub the other day. A 79' that was yellow and white. I purchased it from a Massey Ferguson dealer who started out as an IH dealer back in 1975. Well I was dying to know and just had to ask him how many red "new international" cubs he sold. I have to admit that I was a little shocked at his answer. He said that between 1975 and 1979 he sold not one single red cub. In fact, when he heard that they were discontinuing the cub he order 25 of the 79's and every single one was painted yellow and white. And here I was thinking there were a lot more reds then yellows after 75. Maybe I should stop thinking so much.

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas, and congratultions on the 79. Much sought after cubs. Most of the later models are indeed yellow and white, with a few red ones, special ordered, and I think the ones are beauts, of course I am partial to red.

The 'long stripe' Cubs are a rare Cub, only 5,560 made from 1975 to 1979. The early Cubs had that many produced in less than 2 months. Probably never know how many were red??

This is one of the widely held beliefs that the database was cleared up for all of us on the forum. It wasn't so long ago that many here thought that the majority of the late models were red, and that all the '79's were red. Thanks to the contributions of everyone here, we now know that is not the case.

Stick, did any yellow and white cubs show up in the red and white hood range?

Not a one. Also, no solid Red has been reported within that range either.

Re: Not many Red "new international" cubs?
Forgot to welcome you to the forum Lively! You are lucky to have a 'long stripe' as your introduction to Cubs.
Personally, I am very partial to yeller Cubs, all my workers are yeller. If you call it a Farmall Cub people know what you are talking about, don't get upset when people it a Cub Cadet... it will happen.
Boss Hog has a couple of the very, very rare 1964 red and white 'Farmall' 12v Cubs. About 300?? made. To me that is by far the best looking Cub.
Enjoy your new Cub!

And that fact is one of the most regrettable moves made by IH management in the history of the company! They should have all been red....

1979 International cub
Re: Not many Red "new international" cubs?
Thanks for the welcome, guys. I guess I was missled by all the litature out there that saying there are a lot of red late model cubs. Ya learn something new every day. As far as getting the 79', that was just a stroke of luck. I saw it on Tractorhouse.com several months ago but was not interested because of how bad it looked and the price. $3500. But call it devine intervention, I decided to call them and to my suprise they had cleaned up the tractor and repainted it! They put on 2 new front tires, a new battery box ,new battery ground strap, rebuilt carb, new points and condenser, a new sediment bowl and a new battery. And, they delivered it 139 miles to my house. Well, I couldn't turn it down, so I took a leap of faith and got it.

I went to one of the local IH dealers a few years ago to get a new mower belt for my C2. I had a string to estimate length. The guy refused to use the string first, then when he found out it for a Farmall cub, he said they didn't have cub stuff anymore. I kept telling him over and over that it was a 1948 FARMALL and it was just a belt anyway. He was so intelligent that he would not listen and said he couldn't help me because they didn't continue the license for cubs. I was so mad at him, I went to an auto parts store and got the belt.
Funny thing. I have since had to return to that location for cub parts and guess what? They have some!
