So my cub is split and I am now trying to get it back together and the shaft won't go all the way in, what's the problem?

Re: fitting together.
Alignment might be a little off. Tip of the shaft has to go into the bushing, in the crankshaft. Very slight mis alignment can stop it.

Re: fitting together.
Did you use an old transmission shaft or clutch alignment tool if you had it apart for that reason…..Dave

Re: fitting together.
Put the PTO in gear and turn while sliding the tractor halves together. Main transmission shaft splines have to line up with the clutch disk splines.
You also have to have everything lined up.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Remove the hand hole cover on the bottom of the torque tube. Flash light. See which direction your alignment if off.

Re: fitting together.
If it hangs up when I'm putting mine together, I usually just turn the fan blade by hand a touch…This turns the flywheel a tad and it'll pop right in…( Kinda the same as Eugene mentioned only from the other end )…. I recently cut 2- 7/16, 3 1/2 bolts off and put a slot(for a ratcheting screwdriver,in case they get stuck when removing) where the head used to be to use as guides when sliding it together, as suggested in a previous post as I too have one split at the moment….But it sounds like your beyond that stage….Dave

Re: fitting together.
I tried everything everyone told me and I still couldn't get it, I've got it lined up just about as perfect as it'll get. Any other suggestions?

Re: fitting together.
Have the transmission shaft splines meshed with the clutch disc? (Check by engaging PTO, if the PTO shaft will turn-no engagement of trans shaft/clutch disc. If PTO shaft won't turn--you probably have engaged the clutch disc.) If you're left with a 1/2-3/4" gap between engine and torque tube, you can use some longer bolts to pull them together and finish up with the OEM bolts. I've had several I have had to do this way and all went together with no trouble. Mind you, slowly and carefully
