Front Tire Mounting Advice Needed
I have a front 12 inch tire and tube I want to mount on the rim, after taking off the old tire. Can a regular automobile tire machine be used, or is there another method? Can anyone give me any tips so I don't damage the rim? I've mounted plenty of car tires, but I just wanted to know about any pitfalls I may encounter. Thanks in advance. Bill B.

I used two pry bars and plenty of dish soap. That's probably the method joe-farmer would have used back in the day and is pretty easy to do. Just make sure you don't pinch and puncture the tube.

I don't have a tire changing machime. I just use a couple of tire irons. Just be sure not to pinch the tube.

Re: Front Tire Mounting Advice Needed
I have helped to change a couple of front tires. If you have a manual tire changing unit, it really makes the job easier. I have done it both ways, and I prefer to use a machine. However, I cannot justify buying a machine for a job that I only plan to do once every couple of years...

I take mine to the local garage and they charge me $5 to change one over. Easier than I can do it.

I bought a changer from harbor Freight and it looks good….Where to mount the tire changer is an issue…So I take them to my neighbors pro garage…He charges me little or nothing….However I can't talk him into the rears…And the machine does me no good on them, even if I hooked it up…. Dave

Take it to the local shop and pay them do it. I tried to do it myself, and after wrestling with it for over an hour, it took a friend's extra set of hands on a third screwdriver to get the tire off. I tried for a couple hours with soap and a garbage bag, but could not get it back on.

Re: Front Tire Mounting Advice Needed
I purchased a manual “portable” changer like Harbor Freight sells several years ago (http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive ... 69686.html), I think I got mine at TSC, similar item and price. I have given it a good work-out on Cub Cadet tires lately. It works well for breaking beads on 8” & 12”, removing 12” tires and OK putting them back on... without tubes (mostly an operator error). I have remounted a few tires on painted rims but more on “workers” and not as particular with them. It is handy to have available when I need to use it. But, after pinching a new tube a few years ago I decided paying $5 or $6 a tire was a good spend to get it done. I had some changed Saturday, $6 each by a pro who took care of the rims.
Good luck,
Good luck,
David

Re: Front Tire Mounting Advice Needed
Now to have something like Barnyard has to break badly rusted beads on rear tires! Again, probably a 1-time use thing, but man it would be nice to have!
