No compression

Postby Donald R Long » Sat Jul 26, 2014 9:57 am

Purchased a 1949-50 cub that was just barely running. Cleaned everything up, pulled the pistons, honed the cylinders, put new rings on, had the valves refaced and seated. Put in new plugs. Set all valves at .o15 and checked that they were closing in the right firing order. Each cylinder is firing in time with the distributor and spark is at each plug BUT the tractor will not start and I have no compression. NEED HELP!!!!!

No compression as the results of a dry and wet compression tests?

Pretty unusual that you would have zero/no compression. If so, need to find out why.

Correct size rings? Ring end gaps staggered? Head gasket and installed correctly?
I have an excuse. CRS.

Squirt a little oil, just a couple squirts per cylinder into them. Note, the spark plug hole is over the valves, so you will need to aim the oil can toward then center then crank it over a time or two. If the cylinders and rings were not lubricated well during reassembly they will be to dry to seal.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
