all of this talk about cubs lasting another 60 years??
it seems like allot of people here think these tractors will last another 60 years, i would like to think so; but are their still going to be parts in 60 years? will people still know how to fix them in 60 years? i think in the future almost all cubs that havent had engine rebuilds will have to have them eventually, im mean they are getting up there in age. i know there are parts for overhauls now but will there still be in a decade?
that being said its amazing how many other things the little cub has outlasted. when you think about it, things have changed around our tractors, but the cub remains. people no longer drive the cars they once did, our clothing and hairstyles changed several times, our homes no longer look the way they did, nearly everything changed except our tractors. they are just about some of the most stout things ever built along with the A, super-A, C, H, and M. except today i think the cub is more useful then those other tractors i mentioned.... with the exception of the A and super-A which is still every bit as useful as the cub.
cubs, A's, and super-A's are all like sub-compacts useful chore tractors, great for around the yard. anything larger then an super-A is too large to mow your lawn but too small for modern commercial corporate farms. they are more or less museum pieces. i have a guy i know from work, he said my cub is out of its era; he has some high-tech commercial zero-turn mower. i strongly disagree, the cub is ever bit as useful as it was when it was brand new; and it costs allot less then a commercial mower

Re: all of this talk about cubs lasting another 60 years??
Since its been 60 years and they are still making cub parts not to mention after market parts. And the fact that it was the second most sold tractors after the Ford N series. I have pretty good vision that the Farmall Cub is here to stay. The only trouble I forsee is the lack of implements due to a lot of people not knowing what they are. Thats why we need to step it up and buy all Cubs and Cub related equipment and preserve it. If you guys want to, I will be happy to start the National Stategic Cub Supply at My house, just ship yur cubs and equipment in to me and I will keep them in case of emergency.
Tractors are like watermelons: the RED is good and you throw away the GREEN.

That is what BOBs are for!
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

If the demand for parts is there, they will be available. The dollar rules, in business!

Re: all of this talk about cubs lasting another 60 years??
Who knows what 60 years from now will bring for ANYTHING. The world is constantly changing, and who knows whether any of us on this forum will be here in 60 years. The truth is that these tractors are so simple to work on that they will have enduring appeal for who knows how many years.
They do have their drawbacks, though. Implements are HEAVY and hard to change on a tractor. That is the reason that so many folks have more than one...they keep implements on the tractor for the season so they don't have to lug them around so much. In your case, ad365, your cub is a mowing machine during the Summer. That is the duty that my tractor does regularly during the Summer, along with toting around my Cub Trailer to haul stuff off of my property over to my uncle's field to dispose of. (branches, leaves, brush, and other misc yard junk). During the Winter, Merlin does the snow plowing. This means that I have two implement changes per year. One to take the mower off and put the plow on, and one to do the reverse.
These little Cubs are useful in their own way, but who knows what technology will be around in 60 years to do the chores that the Cub does. There will come a time when the only ones left will be those in the museums of "ancient farming"... Here's to that future coming a LONG time from now!!

Re: all of this talk about cubs lasting another 60 years??
As of right now they are still plentiful and generally not to expensive to buy or maintain. That said, those things may change and probably will. Like Mike said who knows what things will be like in 60 years, I'm pretty sure I won't be around to see.
Happily there are a number of "youngsters" on this site that enjoy getting their hands dirty and may be here in 2074 (feels strange just typing that), I'm sure there will some interest to keeping these old machines going. I'm happy to say I've nurtured my son to have a strong interest in things mechanical and while he doesn't have a Cub yet I like to think he'll keep ol' Smokey long after I'm gone.
Edit: There also seems to be plenty of new folks continually discovering the joys of "Cubbing".

How many will still be around and in use in 60 years does not really worry me. Just so mine out last me is my goal.

If my cubs last another 60 years I will be 128. Guess I need to start on a couple steps before I hit 100. Won't be able to scrounge up the money for gas anyway. I'm like John. If they outlast me my son in law will have to worry about keeping them running. But I will haunt him.

ha ha! Yeah, I'd be 85. I hope I can still get on a cub then! I might even get to haul great grand kids around if I'm really lucky!

I got my first Farmall when I was 27 and when the bug hit me, it hit hard. Now I only have farmalls and can spot a farmall lurking in the trees at a half a mile.

Maybe in 60 years I'll still be around to see (I'd be 90). I plan on keeping the hoard up and adding to it because once they are gone, they're gone.
