replace radiator OR have it repaired?
so what's my better option here. are these radiators worth repairing? a new radiator can be had for around $120. there is a local radiator shop that can repair it for $30. the problem is a small crack on the neck so when the engine gets up to temp i am loosing SOME antifreeze, its nothing that has even really made the coolant really low it just needs to be fixed. should i fix it or replace it? radiator is actually otherwise in good shape, the fins are in good shape and other then the small crack the upper tank is in good condition. heck this radiator might even be original, lol. a 60 year old radiator jeeze i wonder if it really is original

Re: replace radiator OR have it repaired?
A lot of the aftermarket radiators don't fit well, and most are thinner, thus less cooling ability.

In addition to my desire to keep everything as original as possible, my Scots heritage says $30 is better than $120.

Re: replace radiator OR have it repaired?
New cores are available for the radiator. It will more than likely cost more to have the radiator recored than a new radiator.
Radiator shop can test the radiator and advise you on how to proceed. Quite possible there is very little left of the original radiator.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: replace radiator OR have it repaired?
i may or may not be the original radiator. i would have no idea how to tell. the radiator appears to be in good condition, the fins are in good shape with no noticeable corrosion

Maybe not, but hopefully someone in your family will be.

Unless you have reason to think it is not, take the position that it is (As in "That's my story and I'm sticking to it"). If the only apparent problem is the crack at the neck, I stand by my comment that $30 is better than $120.

Talk to the radiator place to see if you can bring the tractor there and not remove the radiator. Thats what I did for a new filler neck.
