Need help please! (Tractor vs engine SN)
Hi all! I am revisiting a topic I last touched on 5 years ago. http://www.farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=44058
Here we are 5 years later and with more information in the Database, I am looking at the tractor vs engine serial number relationships again. I have just started making new graphs and equations and have already noticed some interesting twists that were not apparent the last time I looked into it.
Here is what I would like to do and why I need YOUR help. I would like to get some engine serial numbers off actual tractors that are not included in the Database yet. I will then use the regression models to make a prediction of the tractor serial numbers. After I report my guess, you then let me know the true tractor serial number so we can see how far off I am.
Please post your engine serial number on this thread or PM to me if you prefer. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Are we talking just Cubs? I could pull the SN from the Cubs at work.

Cubs and LoBoys. I haven't started looking at LoBoy relationships yet, but I might as well. Just post the engine serial number first (and tell me if its a LoBoy or FCub), then reveal the tractor number after I make a prediction. Thanks!

I'll get Lewis' engine serial number for you when I get home this weekend! He's not in the database and is all original with no parts replaced. (yet)

Re: Need help please! (Tractor vs engine SN)
My FCub serial number is: 16812
My engine part number is: 251341R2 L
According to my owners manual they are showing an illustration that has FCUBM 251341R1 which is the engine part number. This is to help the owner find the engine serial number.
The only other numbers I can find on the engine is 5 15 T (I think the last figure is a T)
Great thing you are doing, I'll get the rest of the numbers off my Cub tomorrow morning and send them to you for the data bank.

Re: Need help please! (Tractor vs engine SN)
Sailor, thank you. I believe you have given me the tractor serial number, not the engine serial number. The engine serial number is stamped on the block on a milled-flat area just above the oil dipstick. Its behind the carb and hydraulic pump lines so it might be hard to see.
BTW, with an R2 part number, I think you have a replacement engine. A Cub of that era would originally be an R1 block. The T casting code would indicate the block is from 1950.

You think it's possible you could "figure" it out close enough to get a serial number for a Cub where the tag is missing?? I know your method can't be exact and is just a study but I'm hoping for the best! hah.

Thanks jrenn! Let me look into and I'll report back. That one falls into an interesting range of engine numbers.

No, there is no way we can get the actual serial number with certainty. I am however encouraged by the results so far. I have broken down the data into broad ranges and am especially surprised by the consistency of the 1949-1954 and 1958-1967 ranges. I feel that if broken down even further, the relationships will be even stronger. My goal with this exercise is to try real-world examples where I do not know the tractor serial number beforehand, but it is known. With specific examples, I can try narrowing down the date range to see what kind of results I can get with a more localized data set.

Re: Need help please! (Tractor vs engine SN)
Well I guess I have been putting off getting my serial numbers into the database for long enough.
At least now I have an excuse, I am the control sample
FCub engine serial #'s
22026 (not mine but I take care of it)
98441
158736
168093
LoBoy engine serial
241540
I'll provide the actual serial #s for the data base and some casting codes when you're ready.

After a little paint scraping I got the numbers you were looking for. This is a revision from my first post.
FCUB Serial No: 16812
Engine Serial No: 115096
Hydro Serial No: 215074 (I believe there is a 1L preceding that serial number but I'm not sure)
Hope this helps.

In Trent's absence, I'll take a stab at this. I am going solely off calculator skills, and don't have the database set up for auto generating the gaps that are trying to filled in this exercise!! Please let me know if I'm even in the ballpark!

These numbers are purely speculative, with the fact that the tractor has had the bolster changed out in the past. We have no way of knowing if these are close with the information that is available now.
