Yep you have a steep slope modified cub.

There was a sales brochure on TMs site, but I can't find the link to it ATM.

If you don't mind, can you get pictures of the serial number plate, and the mounting of the woods 59?

I've now seen 5 of them, including yours, and yours is the first I've heard of still possessing a factory tag. All of them have been 1960 lowboys, 3 of them had woods mowers, 2 of them had Mott flail mowers.

Your seat has been moved to the right, you are correct in guessing that the yellow paint shows the old mounting position. Also every one I've seen has been yellow from the factory.

Ive been trying to find a replacement steering wheel for mine, it's been replaced with another wheel of some sort.

Here's a picture of mine.

Thanks

I'll add a photo of the s/n tag tonight when I get home.
The tag is in poor shape, it has suffered from "cleaning" damage I think. It looks like someone took a screwdriver to it, it's pretty scratched up. Also there are holes in each corner so it looks like it was originally braded in place, but the holes are empty and it must now be glued on or something. I'm sure it was removed for the last re-paint of the tractor, because I can see at least one place where the tag is damaged there is red paint under it. I hope this is not a sign that it might not be the correct tag for the tractor.
I'll also be glad to take photos of the mower mount, though I'm not real sure just what bits you are interested in.
Thanks for the photo of your tractor. I am always interested in seeing other tractors similar to mine.

If these don't show what you wanted to see, let me know, I took several more shots, I just didn't want to waste the storage space if I already had it covered.

Excellent, someone did a lot of fabricating to make that Woods mower fit. There was surely not one from the factory that would fit the 'stretch' Lo Boy. The brakes are pretty interesting how they rigged it. Treat those parts like gold, you could never replace them. But I do think all the parts are listed in the last parts manual (37F??)

Gator's looks a lot more like the one I saw at Cecil's fest, but that one had a huge( 60"?) Mott belly mower. The front tie rods are different too? Over and under. Only picture I could find readily;

Bet you could find the big steering wheel, was likely used on other tractors bigger than a Cub?? 18" wheel 627811r91 But the manual does say with a 105 balanced head mower (sickle) so possibly not right for your Cub?

Surely unique! One of the rarest Cubs.

Hmmm... I think I'm going to have to find me a standard Cub so I can put the two side by side for a comparison. Mine is the only Cub I have ever seen, so I guess I don't realize how different it is. I don't have that frame of reference like you guys do. I just have to convince the wife that I need another one.
By the way, I'm pretty sure mine does have the oversize steering wheel.

Spoken like a man truly looking for a reason to go get another Cub. While that is definitely reason enough for all of us on here, your wife might take more convincing! You really need to come by my barn, you can check out a pair of regular LoBoys as well as a few standard FCubs.

Trent, I'll take you up on that offer to look at your tractors, PM sent.
Yes, those duals on Hanks tractor, and the larger front tires, make it look like it really means business.

This topic has been discussed many times, but to the best of my knowledge, IH did NOT use primer. Especially, not "Federal Yellow" primer.

They did on the Farmall 140 tractor....yellow primer. Not sure about the Cubs of that era.

They did use a yellow primer on Cubs, at least later model Cubs. I'm not sure about Cubs of the era of this highway mower however. Matt is right that the yellow revealed on the seat frame looks like Federal Yellow and that was likely the original color of the tractor. The yellow primer was darker.

Not only did they use primer, but easier just to stop stripping when you hit it and just paint over it. They used the good stuff! Sheet metal parts (behind the tool box on a deluxe seat) was primed too. Although what shows on his picture looks to be federal yellow. Normally there is no paint there or just primer.

There is just so much different on those special Lo Boy's that truly are mutant Cubs. Nothing else like them. For example, you will likely never find a Cub with dual reducers, even one is rare. Factory 'turned' finals (180 out, the stretch) is major. Factory platform extension with all the rigging for the brakes would be cobbled if someone did it later.

You should be very happy that there is a mower on it, it would be a big project to make something fit.

Enjoy that Cub, it's very special!

This is all so amazing. All these years this Cub has been sitting in dad's shed, and we never had any idea that it might be anything special.
Clearly, the guy he bought it from had no idea either.
