Need to do a rebuild on one of my carbs and noticed the following:
Note: This kit does not include the Main Jet because there is a choice of two. If you need a main jet, please go to part # FTC1461 for Cubs from 1947 to 1956 or to part # FTC1463 for Cubs from 1957 and later.
My question is are the carbs different or only the main jet. Will the carb from an earlier cub work with a newer cub. What if you put the wrong jet in, how would you know, etc.

Re: Question about carb
The main jet, the discharge tube and the bleed are matched to one another. If you can make out the # on the flat surface on top of the float bowl you will know which you should have. A lot of aftermarket kits have been installed that probably mismatched the parts, but it seems that it has not caused problems except in a few instances. That may be because a lot of Cubs are not running up to spec. Too small a jet and the engine may act like it is fuel starved, too large probably just wastes a little gas.
