50 cub fan hub

Postby WS50demo0505 » Mon Jun 30, 2014 8:59 pm

I took apart the fan hub on the 50 cub. There is not much to it. The shaft is a little wobbly and I can tell it had been leaking.
Is a tight fit the only thing that keeps this from leaking? There are no seals on the shaft. I cant imagine any used part I could get that would be in better shape after 64 years than what I have. Is a new one available? Also, by looking at the parts diagram, someone put the oil impeller on inside out. It cannot have been working right and probably caused the shaft wear. Any comments?

There is no seal, if you follow the directions to turn the screw to the drivers side, then fill it, then turn it down and let it drip out, there is a standpipe inside the fan that sets the level. When looking at the oil scoop remember, the shaft does not turn, so the scoop is stationary, and the oil is moving around it due to centrifugal force.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

I seem to remember that some of the manuals have the oil scoop curly Q, 6, or 9 looking thing backwards to what it should be. I've never had one apart and usually get confused when talk goes to which way it should face. Hopefully I never have to take one apart :D
