Where does the Hand crank go?

Postby Jackman » Thu Jun 30, 2005 5:30 am

I have a 56 Lo-boy I imagine that the hand crank would have stayed with the tractor after the motor was started, but where did it go? I have seen on the Ford 8N the crank mounted to two clips on the fender, IH must have done something simalar also.......Anyone know, posbly have a picture?

Thanks Jack

Two clips are mounted on inside edge of the floor pan, next to the torque tube/transmission, so the hand crank ends up under your feet between the battery box and pedals.

Jack, that's a very good question that I have asked myself over the last 6 months of Cub-owning, the answer will be interesting,

Snap! Lurker, both posted at same time,

Yes I,ve seen two broken off bits of metal screwed where you say and wondered what's broken off there

Can anyone let us have a photo or 2 so a bit of metal bashing can get a couple made?

Thanks Pat

Scotty - the big holes are where the roadkill scoop attaches. It's a little known, seldom advertized implement. Quite handy for scooping up that flat possum while on the go! :D :D :D

Ought Ohhhhh! BigDog has (once again) let the perverbial "possum outta the scoop" !!!

Yes Scotty...Those 2 larger holes were designed by IH Engineers for the EXTREMELY RARE "Cub Possum-Git-R Scoop" :D . I personally own 2  !!! and I've only seen 1 other at the Red Power Roundup in Ollie, Iowa in 1962 :D !

I happen to own the original prototype and Possum-Git-R-Scoop #001  !
Good luck on your search for this nearly one-of-a-kind Cub Implement  !

Pat and others:

Those clips are spring steel ifn I am assuming correctly. Judging by the clips I have it seems to make sense.

Tom over at TM Tractor Parts is stocking new repro parts that are being made for him and one of them is

Starter Crank Clips, :!:  :!:

However, at that price, it will be one of the last things I get for Ellie and Granny. Jethro won't be needing a hand crank.. :!:

Enquiring minds however, still want to know what them thar two holes are fore -- and sorry Country, we Canucks just don't buy the Possum Git-R Scoop explanation  8)   However, the McCormick-Deering Cub Beaver Bagger Attachment does have a ring of authenticity to it...

:D Dang I sit here laughing  my butt off reading these post in fact I no longer care about where my crank goes I just want that optional yet extremly rare Beaver Bagger I could surley entertain my self for hours  if I just had a Beaver Bagger....... Oh thanks for the pics and info I just love this Cub technolgy stuff, but I do wonder if maybe the crank is ment to be mounted opposit what the pics show it seems to make more sense that the handle goes around the battery box as opposed to under the heals of your feet....
