Tire Pressure

Postby Ruffasacob » Fri Jun 27, 2014 8:46 am

I searched the forum but no results. We have a 63' LoBoy I just changed the front tubes on. It has original 4.00-12 Firestone F2 Champion Guide Rib tires with some age cracking on them. Of course old tires don't have max tire pressure warnings on them. What is the right tire pressure for them? I put 20 lbs. in but they seem pretty hard. For that matter what is the rear number? They are Firestone Traction Champion R-1, 8.3-24. Is there a way to keep the lug nuts from rusting? I painted the wheels while the tires were off and the rusty nuts look terrible. I'm too "thrifty" to get new ones, and all I can think of is paste waxing them, after removing the rust. I guess I could paint them after mounting the wheels and hope I don't need to take the wheels off for a while.

Thanks, Ruff

Go to pages 45 and 46 in the manual. http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/Cub%20 ... 8-1-63.htm
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Barnyard, I know that chart, but I've never been able to decode it. I just run on 12 rear and 20 front.

Do the different pressures mean that the pressure is dependent on how much weight the tractor is carrying?

Thanks for that link.
I think that is the load weights. That's how I read it anyway.
Since my tires are tired, I'll stay on the low end. 20 and 12 sound good to me too.

Thanks, Ruff
