Kirk - For years (since the 60's) before we had the fast-hitch a bolt went into the shaft brace. After reviewing the book for mounting this planter with a fast-hitch - I created the STUD there for the counter shaft brace to latch over. The only modification to the brace was to grind one small corner off on the backside.

We also learned to mount the unit and then attach the brace as the book calls for. Ol' Dad argued with me about that - till I showed him in the book and then how easy it is to mount without the brace attached.
