Must-have jack?
What kind of jacks do you folks use and what do you consider a mandatory lifting device for working on your Cub? Pics would be great.

Re: Must-have jack?
I have several hydraulic bottle jacks, a farm jack, a railroad jack and a hydraulic engine hoist. I also have lots of cribbing and blocking. I have used it all, at one time or another, in working on tractors and various other things.

Re: Must-have jack?
I use a 5 ton floor jack for my Super A, which is heavier tractor. Just gotta have a platform to put it on so it can extent up into the jackpoints. I'm sure a bottle jack would be better tho.

Re: Must-have jack?
Agree with Don. I have all of his listed jacks and several types of car bumper jacks.
The engine hoist is close to a must have "jack" when splitting a Cub, tractor. 2nd jack would be heavy duty floor jacks. Next would be the bottle jacks. Last would be the farmers jack and different car jacks.
Thing is, for some tasks you will use more than one style of jack. So, other than the engine hoist you need multiples.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Must-have jack?
Buddy Banks of the LA Cubfest has one of the best setups that I have seen. In his humongous shop, as well as under it's attached sheds, are several chain hoists fastened to a trolley that is on an "I" beam. We split several cubs that weekend using one chain hoist for the front and another for the rear. Works easy and is safe.

I agree with Don. Plus you have to be very safe. Safety has to be the first thing in your working area.

Re: Must-have jack?
Mine was one of those split at Buddy's LA cubfest in April to replace the rear main seal. 30 Minutes after I drove it under the monorail, I drove it out of the shop with the new seal installed. Best setup I have ever seen for that type of work. Stan Oh yeah, the help was super and host was outstanding!!!

Re: Must-have jack?
Mark:
I have like Don used many different types/methods over the years working on me Cubs. Cribbing to bottle jacks to jack stands. Bottle jacks, an auto hydraulic jack and cribbing/stands tend to be my go to methods. I also have a chain fall and a hydraulic hoist to help with heavier tasks.
What you will use probably will depend on what you have access to. No matter what type of jack/lifting device you use - remember Safety 1st!
Check out this article - it is a must read if you are going to use jack stands of any type : How To Safely Disassemble A Culti-Vision Tractor\

Re: Must-have jack?
Wow, what a shop! Pardon me in my envy.
I noticed your crossed swords up above in the photo. Cav saber? I collected Civil War stuff and had an Ames cav saber and a Glaze/Palmetto Confederate cav saber I was going to mount in that fashion on a couple of oak slats. Never got around to it.
Thanks to all who responded as it gives me an idea where to put my money.
