I finally pulled the cub out of the barn

Postby xbartx » Sat Jun 14, 2014 9:40 pm

Year after year the hay bales blocked access to the cub in our barn and the barn was about to get filled again.
I got it out the day before the hay went up, I was surprised how well it ran and how easily it fired up after sitting years going unused.
My son and I have been doing some long needed maintenance on it and it's turning out to be a nice father and son project.
I took the hood off to get to the belts and generator. There was a lot of dirt an grim to try and clean up.
A couple hours of scrubbing and I have the bulk of the engine area fairly clean.

What I know or think I know about it, it is a 1948 cub and we have a 22 mower and 193 plow.
Looks to have been repainted at one time.

This new member really appreciates all the great info here and it has been really helpful.
-Brad

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, there is a lot of great information here!

I see a lot of really beautifully restored cubs here and think that would be great.
I just don't have the time or resources right now.
I just made some room for it under a covered area off the house that will give us easy access to it.
I should be able to run the tractor more frequently and It should fit in our garden shed during the winter.

I would like to spruce it up a little and I was trying to search for a thread about painting
a cub that wasn't totally taken apart and didn't have much luck.
Does anyone have a opinion on that or could point me to a thread that might be helpful.

Hi Brad!

Whether that tractor has been repainted in the past or not, it looks like a really nice worker. As Bigdog has said many times in the past, "Paint don't Pull!"... If you have a good runner and a fairly quiet tractor, just get the belts on, fluids topped up, and run it like you stole it! You'll be amazed at what that little tractor can do. I happen to LOVE cubs in their working clothes!!

How about tuchup with rattle can paint. Keep it from rusting till you are ready for a nice paint job.

Welcome to the Forum. This is the only to place to be when you own a Cub.

My advise is to do a lot of reading in the different areas. Download and print the manuals - it's just easier. We all like LOTS of pictures, so set up your restoration thread and get started. Enjoy....and welcome again.

For my Cubs a rattle can job would be "a nice paint job"! :D
