Hello all!
My 1954 Cub needs a new wiring harness... Not sure which one I need, or the best place to get one. My current wiring harness has chafing in spots, and is just in generally poor condition. The battery cables are fairly new, replaced by the previous owner. I consider myself pretty handy, but am not too familiar with ignition systems (rotors? magnetos? points? condenser? voltage regulator?...need to do some research...) I don't think replacing this is above my abilities. Also, forgot to mention, 6 volt, positive ground.
Anyway, again looking for advice on type of harness and source of supply. Also, I'll probably replace plug wires too, so recommendations welcome on that too. I'll attach some photos, and my S/N is 186253.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Electrical questions
I know there are several reputable suppliers out there, including some forum members, but for me I was very satisfied with the Cub wiring harness I bought from the Brillman Company. Their website is very easy to navigate through, and for the Farmall Cubs they have the wiring harnesses arranged by serial numbers.

Re: Electrical questions
My suggestion is purchase some bulk wire and wire terminals from the local hardware store. You will probably not need to replace all of the electrical wires, just the bad ones.
Ignition, plug, wires are available at your local auto parts store.

Re: Electrical questions
I have had good luck with Porch Electric, they make a nice harness at a reasonable price.
Good luck,
Good luck,

Re: Electrical questions
I see a lot of positive comments about both, Porch & Brillman, I think you would be happy with either.

Re: Electrical questions
You essentially have 3 choices:
1) restoration type harness (Porch, Brillman, etc.)
2) original from CaseIH (part 354252R92, commonly called the 7 wire harness - I think this is correct for your tractor)
3) make your own.
Each approach has advantages. The restoration harnesses will be more like a kit, probably include instructions, use cloth covered wire. The CaseIH harness will be just a harness, any other wires or small harnesses will be separate, will use modern materials. Make your own is least expensive and takes the most time, good option if only one or two wires are bad, maybe not if you need a whole harness.
People will argue for one approach or another. Take your pick.

This is also true for Porch Electric. I bought mine from there and they were competitively priced and their service was great. However, at the time, they sold the harnesses abd wires individually (i.e. main harness, rear light harness, wire from VR to alternator, etc.) They were very thorough, though and asked me about each piece that was available to make sure I didn't forget anything.

I agree! The harness came complete and all color coded with directions.
