Hi everyone,
I am new to the board, I recently got a restored 1953 Farmall Cub last fall. I put it away for winter storage, garaged and just brought it back to my barn
less than two weeks ago. Everything has been going well with it, but today I noticed that the wheel bearing is oozing out, kinda looks like oil? I took a picture of it... didn't know if I need a new seal (what I think I need) or if it is something else?
Thanks for your help

Re: Please help, oozing out oil near wheel bearing
Your post brings up something I have been meaning to ask his Forum- both of my Cubs have a cover over the wheel shaft beaings on the inside of the LEFT final drive, and both of them have an exposed (and oozing) nut on what looks like the final drive shaft on the RIGHT final drive. The cover seems correct, is there some reason why Cubs don't have covers on the right? Or is it just me.....

Do you have a shaft with two flats on it sticking out of the right side final drive? That is a planter drive. You should have a seal retainer and seal which mates to a special nut that is threaded onto the shaft. The bearing retainer looks like this http://www.tmtractor.com/new/fr/RHaxleretainer.htm I just replaced my seal and bought a nut from JP Tractor Salvage (site sponsor) as mine had the wrong nut and was dripping gear lube everywhere. No more leaks!

Re: Please help, oozing out oil near wheel bearing
The right final drive is supposed to have the seal and a shaft sticking out of the lower axle. This is to drive a planter. The left side doesn't drive a planter, so it has a cap over the axle shaft nut.
If oil is oozing out of that seal, two things to check. First, check to make sure that the oil level isn't too high in the final drive pans. Next, the seal can be replaced by taking that retainer off, pressing the seal out and pressing a new seal in. If oil is oozing out of the outboard side of the axle shafts, the replacement of that seal is a little more complicated as the final needs to come off and the axle pressed (or driven) out of the final. Then the bearing needs to be pressed off of the axle and the seal replaced. Bearing needs to be pressed back on and the axle reinserted into the final drive. It is heavy work, but can be done with a good press.

Yeah, what Hengy said. I would add that you should make sure you have the right nut on the inside of the right final drive. I bought a seal and when I went to replace it I found that the PO had installed just a plain old castle nut and a big washer. The proper nut has a large thick flange under the head that mates with the seal. There is also an o-ring under the nut, preventing oil from seeping through the threads. You'll want to check that too. You need a 1-1/2" wrench to remove the nut.

OK, this is the Front wheel bearing that is leaking.
Completely different animal.
Felt Washer and Front Oil Seal are wore out - bearings need to be cleaned and repacked.
