Pitted Touch Control Piston

Postby CraigKennedy » Wed May 07, 2014 9:26 pm

Hello all, I am trying to finish my restore on my '57 lo-boy, I recently rebuilt the touch control pump to stop the leak of fluid into my crankcase, while I still have my hood off, I want to rebuild the touch control cylinder block, with the rebuild kit and new strainer. BUTTTT, there's one problem, When I got the Lo-boy, it was in really bad shape, sat up under a old hay barn for who knows how long... The leather boot that protects the Hydraulic piston apparently rotted away long ago, and now the piston is pitted on top, its nothing horrible, but its enough that I can catch my fingernail on. I don't want to rebuild the whole block just for the piston to cut the fresh O-rings and seals. BTW, Its a 360713R92 casting. Anybody know where to find a replacement piston? I called the nearest Case dealer, and was told to find a junkyard :(

Btw I have a parts tractor with a 354383R1 casting, that is fully retacted in the block, I think it might be frozen anybody know if these pistons are the same by chance?

Thanks all!

Recheck the casting numbers, I suspect your 360713R92 is actually 360719R92. I do not have any to compare, but they both use the same part number if my corrected part number is right. One note, that number is a replacement for some earlier numbers, so it may look different but should fit.

you are right John, my casting # is 360719R92, I got the numbers crossed up between the rebuilt kit and casting, you think the piston is the same??

Hi,
You could sand the surface with very fine sandpaper or crocus cloth if it isn't really badly pitted. If you can get it so it feels smooth to your fingers, it might work ok, but a different one would be better.
I thought all the touch control blocks since 1955 were 360719R1, I'm not an expert on LoBoys though. :)
