voltage reducer !

Postby birddog » Sun Apr 20, 2014 5:57 pm

I was looking through an old Niehoff ignition & electrical buyers guide and came across something I had never seen before. With all the talk of switching from 6 to 12 volts it may be the perfect item. (if still available)

I then decided to check the NAPA Echlin buyers guide and found the same item.

I would guess that the NAPA one with the bracket would look like the Niehoff one.

It says 4 amp unregulated load. If the load is anything other than 4 amps at 6 volts, the voltage will be different. Lower voltage if more than 4 amps, and higher if less than 4 amps. If load changes at anytime so will the voltage.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

The ballast resistor used to "reduce" 12V to 6V for your ignition coil only works because it is sized specifically for a 6V ignition coil, AND coils are not that fussy about voltage. Within 1-2 Volts is fine.

Really for things like lights and whatnot, it will be less expensive to swap out the 6V parts for 12V.
