1947 cub
Acquired a 1947(i think, no serial # plate) has governor problem. Will not advance with the throttle,can move it manually where it crosses through the tractor. can get several govs from ebay but they have a flat top wieghts and a groved top weights. What is the difference and is a a year thing. Thanks

Casting Dates
"New" Locate casting dates on your tractor.
Use the chart on the right to translate the letter code into a year. For example, this picture shows a cylinder block cast date of 8*26*Q, which was August 26, 1947. The number below the casting date is 251341R1, which is the cylinder block part number.
This example is 6*9*Y, or June 9, 1953. Year Code

make sure the linkage on the top of the governor is free before you buy anything. The arm will freeze up quite often. If it is frozen lube liberally with a penetrant and carefully move it back and forth to loosen. It is very easy to break these so be careful.

Either will work, the gov. changed in 1955 I believe . the early ones do not rev up as high

My serial number plate is missing but the casting date on the engine indicates a 1950. If the governor is original to it (mine), it has the groove type weights.
