Nice day to exercise Lil' Debbie after her oil change.
But the reason for this post is to ask about the proper way to secure the sickle. As you can see by this picture somebody used a long piece of all-thread running through the sickle, down to the arm. Any information would be helpful.

Re: My new Cub
I haven't had my sickle mower on in a while, but the lower rod with big bow in it doesn't look right, and your missing the rod that holds the sickle bar up.

Re: My new Cub
Here is a link to TM Tractor Parts website showing every part of a mower and how it is mounted. There are two pages so make sure you check them both out.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: My new Cub
Barnyard, on the second page of your reference, I see were my all-thread is a substitute for the more formal red bar running from the blade "head", to the support bar that is attached to the attachment point, between the front tires.
Two-tone, I'm thinking that rod was bent on purpose. If it didn't have that bow in it, it would be to long and force the blade into an unnatural angle.
I guess this jury-rig will have to do until I can find somebody to fabricate a replacement part.
Again, many thanks.

The support rod is suppose to be straight, the hold up rod slides over the support rod

Re: My new Cub
I'm sure you're already aware but just in case. Watch your fingers when raising the sickle bar those blades will slide.

I see that now. It appears that somewhere in the past that rod went missing and the all-thread was a handy fix. With the scarcity of these parts I doubt I'll ever find a replacement, but that won't keep me from the hunt.
To make the experience even more exciting, I also acquired a dozer/snow blade, two plows and a set of cultivators that came with a wide assortment of mystery pieces.

Re: My new Cub
Oh don't worry you'll find the parts! I was in a similar situation just last year. Both rods cobbled and rigged. No grass board. Wrong rear pulley bracket. Regular Cub and Lo-boy parts here and there. I found everything I needed and put together a nice unit which works flawlessly. Only thing I haven't come up with is the flywheel shield but it will pop up sooner or later. Be patient and enjoy the hunt!

ETA: Check the Vine under classifieds and post a wanted ad. One of your parts is waiting for you already. I bought one from Tim and works/fits perfectly.

I made my flywheel shield that looks just like the original.

Re: My new Cub
Hi,
It looks like you are also missing the inner shoe skid. Here are pics of it from my mower. The front is held on by the rod, and the rear has a bolt. I have an extra piece of metal welded on the bottom, they don't have that when you buy a new one.

Re: My new Cub
Now see what you have been trying to tell me. You are correct, I'm missing that skid plate on the inner shoe as you can see by these pictures.
