which Cub Radiator to buy?

Postby z28clone » Sat Apr 12, 2014 10:08 pm

Did alot of searching and reading alot of threads about the cub radiators. I found a few links for radiators. From $135- $250. Granted, I'd like to buy the cheapest one. Which ones will bolt right in without any hassle? I'd rather not mess with trying to make it fit to my 59 Cub looking for a guarantee direct fit. Thanks.

My first thought also.

Before you purchase a Cub radiator, call the vender and find out where the radiator was manufactured. Irish manufactured radiators are or were quality radiators.

Use the search function, top of page, and read previous discussions on radiators.

Radiator shops in my area are becoming few and far between. The biggest one likes to sell new radiators.
I suspect that Chinese radiators have improved over the years. I have a Cub radiator from China still in the box, purchased 15 or more years ago. It looks to be acceptable but only by a small margin.
More recently, one of our cars needed a new radiator. The old aluminum one failed. The new one was from China, also aluminum. While the fins were different, the radiator fit perfectly and and has functioned perfectly. And the price was a bargain.

I have purchased two from these folks and have had no problem with them. Quick shipping and well packaged, so no damage. 3 years on one and 2 years on the other. This photo on their ad doesn't look very good, but the radiator is! Good luck.

without having mote info about each one it is hard to tell, but Unless I make more inquiries, the one Eugene pointed out would be my choice. My recommendation is based on the fact that Hamilon Bob has the reputation of providing both good merchandise and customer service. I have not bought a radiator in 8 or 10 years, but at that time the ones from Ireland were the best. I believe their brand was Yancy, but not sure about that.

I don't remember what brand I bought, but the guy at the radiator shop quoted me $185.00 for a new one. I told him I could buy them all day for $130.00 on ebay. That ticked him off, but I bought the ebay one and has given me no problems for several years.

I posted the link to the one that I think is the best, going on my experience. Some seam to have good luck with the Chinese ones. However I am not one of them. Most of the time you get what you pay for.

I wonder who makes the cores that radiator shops use to recore a radiator (?).

The radiator shop I went to never even offered a recore, just a new complete radiator.
