Touch Control surging

Postby Edd_D » Sat Apr 12, 2014 1:59 pm

After installing my rebuilt touch control and cycling up and down a bunch of times to clear the air out of the system, I'm getting perfect up and down movement if I move the control fast or if I move the control slowly pushing the handle forward. However, when i slowly pull the handle back, the movement of the linkage gets really erratic and jumps around.

Anybody have any ideas?

I don't think the adjustment on the rod is causing the problem. It is too wide a range in moving the control. It only does it when the control is slowly pulled backward.

Did you top the fluid off after bleeding the air?

Yes I did. Probably added 1/2 pint or so.

The jumping and chattering of the linkage acts like air in the lines so I cycled the unit many times to see if that was what caused it, but to no avail. Sure could use some educated guesses . Anybody have an idea?

Maybe you have something else going on, but the symptoms still suggest air in the system, worthwhile to try purging the system again. Some people get in too big of a hurry cycling the system, which doesn't work well.

Let the tractor sit overnight.
Pull the filler plug out.
Start the engine and let it run at a slow idle.
Move the control lever all the way back.
Wait for the rockshaft to move all the way back and stop moving.
Move the control lever all the way forward.
Wait for the rockshaft to move all the way forward and stop moving.
Repeat the back/forward cycle a dozen time, being sure to allow the rockshaft to stop each time.

Ok, thanks. I'll try that tomorrow morning.

But one note. When I was trying to bleed the air out yesterday and I moved the control lever all the way back, the rockshaft never stopped. It continued to jump around.

But I'll still try it your way. Thanks.
