But I just gotta brag on that ol' Cub. I put Otis away in the shed with Millie back before Thanksgiving. Full tank of fuel and a dose of stabil. Went down to the shed this afternoon and decided I'd crank him up. Fuel turned on, transmission out of gear, magneto switch off, choked the engine...three slow rolls on the hand crank. Flip choke down, pull magneto switch out and one pull of the crank...
After a minute or two at nearly half throttle I eased it down to a slow roll, about 350rpm...the ol' boy sat there and just purred...
Ol' Otis is the best tractor I own

I wish the guy who tuned up Otis would come tune up my yet to be named Cub. I'd probably name the tractor after him...or her.

Great to hear Dusti
Sometimes it's hard not to brag on our Cubs. Today I took off the tire chains and blade hoping that winter is over. After I parked it back in the barn I stood there looking at my '53 thinking, "man, she really earned her keep this winter and never missed a beat". Yep, kind of proud there myself.

All I had to do with my Cub that had sat all winter long was charge the battery a little. The starter rolled it over maybe twice and it was running. @#$(*#$ ethanol gas.....

I know my battery was probably dead as a hammer. I didn't even bother, of course I usually almost always hand crank the Cub. The "M" on the other hand, I didn't even feel like messin' with. I know that battery was dead too, so I'll get it out one day when the weather is a bit nicer. I hated leaving the "M" sit in the shed all winter, but didn't have a choice since the shop is cluttered up with the money pit F12

So my opinion, and experience with my 3 cubs, is that if you take the time and effort to do each little thing "right", Cubs will fire up and run well. I hand crank all 3, on magnetos, but have taken the effort to make the fuel delivery, spark, and timing work correctly. All of that information is here in this forum with a little searching, but there are no shortcuts, or "close enoughs". Do it right, you won't have a problem.
Again, just an opinion. I was (once again) amazed when I started my cub (2 of 3) this past weekend, for the first time in 3 months, on the 4th or 5th pull of the hand crank, and it hauled wood for me till I was tired.

Sound advice, Rick. I have mechanical aptitude but when I was learning the heating business I found myself overwhelmed with so much to learn. I'd get frustrated at my progress and my boss would always ask me "How do you eat an elephant?"...one bite at a time.

Re: Pardon me for braggin' on Otis...
When I hear of people dragging a Cub to get it started, I just shake my head.... If it don't fire right up, there is a problem SOMEWHERE and until its made right, you still got a problem. The above advise is most wise.
