Some yellow & some red

Postby cubby » Thu Apr 03, 2014 10:08 am

I just pickup up a 1975 cub and am waiting to get it home.It is painted yellow and white. I was wondering why some are red and some are yellow and white. Is there a difference? i don't understand the difference between the "lowboy" and a regular cub. Is the # series what is called the lowboy? Will the older implements fit on a newer W&Y cub. I traded a farmall "H" for the tractor and would like to put a plow on it. I have always wanted a Y&W cub and my grand daughter really likes the way they look. I will post back when i get the tractor home. Thanks

I will make an attempt to help, but some will show up with more exact info. early cubs were red, and at a later date the colors changed to yellow in white to go along with the fact that cubs were being used more for commercial applications such as grounds maintenance, and roadside mowing rather than farming.

The original lowboy is a stnadard cub with shorter front spindles and the final drives rotated 90 degrees forward to drop it approximately 7 inches closer to the ground to make it easier for mowing under trees and on hillsides.

The numbered series are lowboys, and use a cub engine and transmission, but also have a belt driven live pto. They were designed primarily for estate mowing, etc. and do not have as heavy a clutch as the original cub, since they were not intended for plowing, etc.

Yes, the implements are the same for either color Cub. They will not fit the # series. I wish I had talked to you about that H before it went to Indiana.

Just teasing you abot the H, I have one here already. They take up more room than a Cub. If you need help up there let me know, I can give you a hand. Otherwise I will see you here next month. Maybe you can show us that one owner 5xx serial number Cub you stashed two counties away. :D

Not gonna happen. We set no quotas on questions here. However, we do want pictures.

I will put some up as soon as the weather stays nice. I plan on taking some of the projects in the shop. I"m starting to get along better with posting on the form. If i can figure out why my posts come thru twice and quit laying awake at nite thinking of questions i can ask, I will start getting more sleep. Im very thankful for all the help. Im getting more projects then i can get in the shop. Oh well. Only live once.SOO, Im off to the workshop to see what kind of trouble i can get into.

Rick, sometimes a post won't go through right away when the submit button is pressed. If you hit the submit button again it will post twice. Some people have hit the submit button several times thinking it didn't go and then find out they have several identical posts.

Essentially after the first batch of red and white 64's, the 12 v Cubs are yeller and white. Some after 1975 were all red. Parts are nearly universal, but they did make improvements along the way.

1968 or so and later were higher HP (domed pistons). 1975 mid-year was the change to 'long stripe', those have factory alternator (no VR), Zenith carb etc and even more HP.

I am a huge fan of yeller Cubs..... don't care what anyone says!
