"Bent Shifter"

Postby Hengy » Mon Mar 31, 2014 1:26 pm

Hi all...

I'm going to be working on installing a deluxe seat on one of my cubs (not sure which one will get it yet!!) and will need to convert the shifter from straight to bent. Can someone give me the distance from the end of the shifting ball to the inside radius of the bend? I need to know where to apply the head and bend the shifter so that it will fit under the deluxe seat.

Thanks for your help!

Mike, you might seriously want to think about replacing the shifter with one that already is factory bent. Reason being is that yours does not have the detent built in to keep it straight, so if you bend it, there will be nothing to keep it from spinning around left to right.

Well, duh! Thanks, Raymond. I'll add that to the list of things to buy now!

Too bad you didn't have it with you at DSCF. Dusty had a deluxe seat shifter Cecil straightened for him. That would have been an easy trade.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

That's me! Day late and a dollar short!

Anyone got one that they would trade?

I can't help you with the shifter, but you will like the deluxe seat. I added one to my '49 Cub several years ago, along with the new silver canvas cushions from Steiner, and it is so much more comfortable to run.

Well, plans are in the works! Merlin (my 1949) is getting the deluxe seat for the time being until such time as Lewis (my 1955) is all gussied up. Then Lewis will get the deluxe seat. Who knows...I might like the deluxe seat so much that I will make the switch on BOTH...

I completely understand why my grandfather put a deluxe seat on my pretty Super A back in the '60s. The same seat is now on Old Ugly, my work Super A.
