IH Pick Up transport for Cub

Postby AndyMac » Mon Mar 31, 2014 1:12 am

Hi folks - Andy here from the UK.
Have an idea to acquire an International Harvester pick-up to lug around my Cub in the lanes of England.
Love the style of the late '40's KB-1 or KB-2 with 113"or 125" wheelbase.
These are not to be found this side of the pond so I'm looking Stateside.
First question - would a Cub fit with room to spare in the back of either?
Secondly - anyone know of a good example available at a keen price?
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Andy

IH Cub, Operator's Manual.

Cub's length, over-all: 99 3/8"
Cub's width, minimum: 48 1/4"
Just my opinion. Cub will not fit in a standard, step side pickup bed. Cub weighs 3/4 ton or more, so you will need a truck capable of hauling that much weight in or on the bed.

Looking at KB pickup photos, some pickups have flat beds which would accommodate a Cub.

Internet search disclosed a number of KB trucks for sale.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I would not recommend using a pickup for a cub-hauler. The center of gravity would be way too high. For towing a cub on a trailer, it would be way cool, especially if you could match the years. But hauling a cub in a truck bed, not so much.

I'd say get one of the larger KB trucks and it would be fine to haul on the bed. KB 5 would be awesome!

If the truck is heavy enough, not a problem.

People haul campers that are much heavier with much higher centers of gravity in pickup trucks all the time. You just need to drive sensibly, which you should do anyway.
