Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
Does anyone know where these inserts can be purchased? I'm rebuilding the engine in my 1948 Cub. The intake valves are seated OK. However, the exhaust valve seats are not sealing properly.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
The seats will require machine shop work on the head. The old seats have to be milled out, then the inserts pressed in. Originally it does not have inserts, the seats are milled into the head.

Page 221 under C-60. The block will have to be machined to install them because they are integral seats.

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
I found them at
Endurance Power Products
6200 Arbor Rd
Lincoln, NE 68517
Toll Free: (800) 467-5545 Ext. 26
Phone: (402) 467-5500 Ext. 26
Fax: (402) 467-3131
SB1187-1 Valve insert-intake (need 4) $2.56 each
SB1000-1 Valve insert-exhaust (need 4) $2.56 each
The invoice came from S. B. International (SBI) in Nashville, TN, the manufacturer.
The order arrive last week. That was the easy part. Now I have to find an engine shop with tool bits small enough to mill the block for these very small inserts with his valve machining equipment. My regular engine guy doesn't have these bits on hand and they run about $200 for the end mill and another $100 for the grinding wheel to cut the 45 deg seat in the insert.
Good luck

Is this thread still alive? I am in the same boat. I tried the part numbers on the Endurance Power web site with 0 results.

Did you try calling Endurance to verify? Those part numbers may not be in the online catalog, but available if you talk to a live person.

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
Called and ordered them today. The part numbers have a 1 added to the end. So SB 1187 1, and SB 1000 1.

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
To install them heat the opening and freeze the new seat.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
ENDURANCE PRODUCTS is now found under RELIANCE POWER PARTS. The valve seat P?N's have gone through changes also. Some places use the original International P?N, or the SB, or the newest is a RELIANCE P/N. Int RP401114, Exh RP401113. I just Googled these numbers and several suppliers came up. Check the shipping before ordering, some are outrageous.posting.php?mode=reply&f=1&t=83194#

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
Your best bet is to find a machine shop first that has small enough cutters and the set up to mount a cub block to cut the seats. They can be done on a machine that is usually used on cylinder heads but a lot of younger machinists don’t realize this. I had a block done a little over a year ago and had a hard time finding a machine shop that could do the work. Any machine shop that can do the work can easily get the seats. A machine shop that specializes in small engines would be more likely to have the cutters than a lot of automotive machine shops. The outside diameter of the seats is only about one inch diameter

Re: Valve seat inserts for the C60 engine
I have used this website to find engine machine shops. I was happy with both of the one I tried - one near work one near home. https://www.aera.org/member-locator.html
